As a transgender artist, I find the body to be an important and necessary tool in exploring the social metaphysics surrounding our concepts of gender, sex, and sexuality. This current series focuses on the methods of oppression within our own language and the ways in which they become manifest emotionally, psychologically, and physically. Masculine defined patriarchal language puts us at odds with our lived experiences, creating the dichotomy of body as home and body as prison. Through performance I challenge the privileged position such language creates in order to make visible the reality of being trans in a *cisgendered society.
*cisgender - in reference to those whose gender expression coincides with the sex they were assigned at birth (woman/female, man/male); anyone who is not transgender
